CBD 101

Hemp Plant

So What's All the Buzz About?

CBD (Cannabidiol) is all over the internet, radio ads, and more. If you are trying to decide if CBD is right for you, it can quickly feel as if you have fallen down a rabbit hole of details. It is important to understand what CBD is, how the body uses CBD, and what to expect from different methods of administration.

First,ย lets assume you already know CBD comes from hemp plants. The plants are harvested and undergo an extraction process and then a refinement process. Based on the various processes used by manufacturers, the raw material can be Full Spectrum Oil, Broad Spectrum Oil, or Isolate CBD Crystalline Powder. Processing methods remove the ability for the refined material to cause a psychoactive feeling in the user; the feeling associated with THC.

What is an Endocannabinoid System and how do I get one?

The good news is- we were all born with an endocannabinoid system (ECS) and our bodies have always naturally produced endocannabinoids to support it. The endocannabinoids produced by the body are also known as endogenous cannabinoids. The easiest way to explain this is that there are several functions in the body that contribute to homeostasis, which is the stability of your internal environment. For example, if an external force, like a painful injury or a fever, knocks the bodyโ€™s homeostasis off balance, the ECS activates and helps your body to get back in line (or in balance). There is still so much to learn about the endocannabinoid system but this should help you see how it supports the balance of the human body and brain.
